A fairly flawed first season due to numerous pacing issues but at the same time its individual-focused episodes like 3 and 7 were such a knockout they soared. Joel a bit toned down from the show and could have used more tension from the infected, but hits the major beats from the games well - that s

A sheer delight, stellar weirdness that works as a hybird of Lost and The White Lotus - packed int tight under 30 minute chunks. A mystery box that answers it questions in a bizarre; weird and out there way - American television hasn't given us anything like this since and won't do so again.

The performances are top notch across the board here - stellar casting on every level. However the second series despite its strong environmental themes doesn't quite stick the landing, the slower pace does eventually build to a conclusion but it's half-baked at best and not quite worth all the buil

Not sure this thing quite moves away from its Goyer-esque foundations but the biggest problem is the lead; The Sandman character is a bit too weak in comparison to the rest who are far much more interesting. Give me a Johanna Constantine series instead please - such a great performance by Jenna Cole

Absolutely cheering at all the classic sequel tropes that this season deployed, such a fantastic cast - Sope Dirisu for Bond, please and thank you - everybody here looks like they could beat up everybody and the show more than succeeds in doing so. Stellar television.

One of the best Sky originals and shows in ages; a tightly plotted science fiction extraordinare with a fun twist on the time loop concept from one of televisions' best talents, Joe Barton. The Lazarus Project really moves like a star - fast paced and excellent - justifying its need for a second ser

Absolutely stellar, thought all faith in Star Wars was lost after watching The Rise of Skywalker - but a grounded, real-world science fiction series that exists as part of the Star Wars world rather than because of it, the character-driven stakes are about as real as they come. Authentic, hard-edged

Much better than the late game GOT (most things are) - a well-executed world-building return to form that gets where it's going thanks to the tremendous performances from all involved (Matt Smith!) and really lays the groundwork for a second season set-up that will shake the world.

Has a problem where it leans too much into its mystery box narrative at times and doesn't satisfy with the answers, but the effects are as good as you'd expect a visual director like Bayona to make them and the world-building is fascinating. The Elrond/Durin dynamic was incredible and one of my favo

they wrapped this show on an ending that's just about as good as it could've been - really well paced, plotted and built to a grand-standing finale that's appropriately epic. Could've used two more seasons but I'll take the send-off when it's as well done as this.

A really bold, Matrix-inspired penultimate season that sets the stage for the fifth in grand fashion - a return to form in every way after the third and although radically different from its core premise ends in a way that feels almost like the show coming full circle.

A nice, fun little show with excellent charismatic leads buckled by a franchise with rare understanding about what made itself so special in the first place.

Perfect third series that pushes the boat out in brand new ways and evolves the show whilst giving its characters new stories, new voices - it’s the best example of prestige television yet and takes the concept of an alternate history fully running with it - the payoff in series three is extraordin

At its weakest can feel a bit like a Wikipedia entry but there's some good stuff here, accessible to non basketball fans like myself and very well acted with real performances and an honest reflection that benefits from the lack of involvement from those within the team itself. The Boston episode -

Best season of the show yet - everything's coming together - took some bold moves especially in the second half with Mel, Andre and that alternate reality finale - but every single one of them all paid off. Franklin's one of TV's best leads.

Doesn't really bring anything new to the table, spends far too much time looking back rather than forward. The finale is the best episode but it feels like it's far little too late to stick the landing.

Season 4. Probably the best outing for this show yet. Jasmine Jobson's Jaq is the star of this season - which keeps the tension high and may just be Netflix's best surviving 'original'. Smartly paced and incredibly addictive.

My Brilliant Friend (2018)

Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay
This unsung gem has never got the attention that it rightly deserves - this is more of an Elena heavy season than a Lila one; but the last one was the other way around - and both actors continuously shine throughout. As usual, so cinematic

Should have been a movie and what an absolute waste of Olivia Cooke; but otherwise - very fun with a vibrant cast of characters and some great Mission Impossible-style hijinks. Will be back for more

Prestige character-driven television that works wonders - sprawling and larger in scale than the first season; a noticeable uptick in quality in the episodes directed by Alice Rohrwacher - it adapts Ferrante's novels superbly bringing Naples to life.

Probably needed to be a movie as there are times when it can feel stretched to meet the six episode run count; but this is a powerful work from Mosley's source material and having him work on the series gives it a sense of credibility and authenticity that many adaptions lack. Maybe the best perform

7 perfect episodes - heartfelt and warm with some great direction from Jay Duplass. Bridget Everett steals the show but there's some really great supporting turns in here. Few TV episodes are topping episode 5 as my favourite of the year.

Fun! Excellent character building - messy and an on point portrayal of the digital age that makes for a perfect companion viewing with Chloe. Nicôle Lecky's stellar. Fearless, bold and fresh. Such a transformative series.
