Reviews for Shōgun

Really great so far Hiroyuki Sanada the legend you are. Tom Hardy from Wish got that Anjin white boy rizz much respect for that. Still absolute peak hate to wait, why only one episode per week? Crazy samurai with all their seppuku and shit. Gotta love them. It's almost over Can not wait for Cri

When you play the game of shōguns, you win or you commit seppuku. There is no middle ground.

This so far the best show of 2024 and scratches an itch that hasn’t been scratched in a long time, I love quiet politics and scheming, this show is so good for all of that, the 3 leads were fantastic and the 3 seperate arcs that are told and their conclusion are masterful. I love a show that comes

This was even better on a rewatch. Still easily the best season of the year for me so far. Impressive considering how great this year already was. Took me completely by surprise when I first watched it tbh. Didn't know it was coming, and it turned out to be better than all of the 2024 seasons that I

When you are longing for beauty, when you crave poetic words, when you want to enjoy art...but you're at home and TV is your only source of entertainment. And you're lost among all the senseless, shallow modern cinema. No worries. Hiroyuki Sanada and Co. come to your aid. It was nothing like I expec

4.5/5 - 4.4 ‘Flowers are only flowers because they fall But thankfully, the wind.’ ~ Mariko x Ochiba sama This was an exceptional season. Might be best of 2024. We’ll wait and see how ‘The Penguin’ is, for now it’s #1. "Shogun" concludes with a thrilling mix of political intrigue, martial arts, a

I jumped into Shogun after hearing endless praise, and I’m glad I did. It's brilliantly written, directed, and acted, exploring themes of loyalty, duty, honor, and sacrifice without being preachy. I can happily say this is one of my favourite series of all time. Some moments left me completely s

The whole show was about feelings and characters and scenes. It was really well done. No great battles or silly happy endings. Moreover, actors were masters. All of them but specifically Mariko and the englishman. Hats off!

I'll lay my cards on the table here in that I was a fan from my childhood of the original. I'd expected this to be even better. And whilst it starts off being a faithful remake of the original, it soon descends into something less enjoyable. The original focused exclusively on John Blackthorns's vi

How do you know a series is really good? When not even the painful to watch Cosmo Jarvis acting ruins it! One of the 2024 best series!

Without knowing anything about the source material, clearly seemed to me that Shogun was going to be a war epic. Fortunately, besides being that, it's so much more. Shogun is an incredible large scale production about power, loyalty, betrayal, redemption, you name it... Practically every possible

It's been a long time since there was a big production series like Shogun that had no business with the audience's expectations. Seriously, what a great show! It's elegant, poetic, smart and slow-burner show and the creators insist there will be no 2nd season to the series. Some stories have a begin

Shogun and The Bear sweeping the nominations at the Emmys. Total of people surprised: none 👌

"The sound of rain on the leaves/can be heard Still more fragile/is the dew of tears on my sleeves/even in springtime Waiting, the pine tree/never withers in winter If I could use words/like scattering flowers and falling leaves What a bonfire my poems would make" This moment, camera lingering

Absolutely masterful. One of my favourite pieces of media ever. Everything about this show is perfect, the beautiful cinematography, passionate writing, rich dialogue, incredible score, outstanding acting, and the vast array of interesting characters with so much depth. I’m so impressed this sho

Everything about Japanese in this series is very well made

A well told and acted story. I appreciate how dense each episode was and how developed the characters were. Definitely something I can see myself revisiting eventually. It’s nice to see work like this being made. Emmys are needed.

The dialogue and body language in Shōgun are the best parts of the show. You don’t have to understand Japanese to comprehend the weight of each utterance and the overall exchange between the characters. This might be the GOT of this era

"One cannot resist the unseen path of nature. All we can do is accept our small part." ❤️‍🩹 What can I say? A beautiful season. Came here for Hiroyuki Sanada but his character was not the one that kept me watching, although he's an extraordinary actor and Toranaga an amazing character. It was Mari

I don't really have anything else to say that hasn't already been said about Shōgun. Politically, it's extremely rich and feels pretty thoughtful and clever with the game every single character plays throughout the season. It's mature, stylish, gorgeous, feels truly well structured, and never relies

Sometimes it's more than just war. It's the people involved and their lives that are more meaningful. I loved how things didn't escalate in the finale. It focused on politics and the characters involved, rather than just savage war, which was fascinating to see. This focus on the human cost of con
