(Some of this is taken from my Episode 2 review) 

Really great little miniseries.

It takes a bit to get going, with the first four or so episodes serving as a very long prologue, that whilst necessary, does seem a *bit* of a copout as only the next four episodes are the *actual* advised premise because the final two episodes are basically dedicated to finishing up the story rather than exploring new realities.

A lot of cool realities are explored here, with them all exploring ideas that we more than likely have all thought of at some point.

For example, the classic "What if the Lich "never even existed?" We've seen Farmworld before, but revisting it and its residents again in Destiny was an absolute treat, and serves as a really cool way to give some form of closure as to what happened after the events of Crossover and even the events surrounding the episode itself.

The Winter King is a really cool subversion of the typical early Adventure Time formula, so I really fw it. Great musical numbers too.

The super edgy vampire infested world of The Star is also amazing, with the Marceline of that world absolutely stealing the show in every scene she's in. The best part is that this Marceline doesn't feel unbelievable. She's basically a hyperbolised version of her Season 1 counterpart, which I think works really well.

The world in which The Lich succeeds with his wish in Season 5 is also cool because it's something that technically does happen — we just never see it. Still not sure how I feel about The Lich getting all emo though. I get the whole show is thematically about depression and no longer having a reason to go on and other such topics but like having the fucking Lich get depressed feels like jumping the gun a bit.

This series has really improved all those old Fionna and Cake episodes for me. The knowledge we get about their creation in this series and Fionna's insane relatability make all those old episodes better.

I do love seeing Simon though. I don't love the post life crisis arc they wentwith, but i think it's done very well here. It also shines a light upon him and Betty's relationship in a way that hasn't been done before, like exploring the idea the varying degrees of devotion between Betty and Simon.

The ending is also really cute. It covers all the bases that Come Along With Me didn't, and basically perfectly ends the show.

I love how they've managed to transition to the young adult audience without it feeling forced. Episode 1 was different from the original Adventure Time context, so I wasn't sure if they'd be able to translate more than just the "vibe" of the show info this new setting, but I was pleasantly surprised with how it worked out. Everything is a tad darker, more mature and for lack of a better word, "adult" compared to the original show, but it never comes off as edgy or tonally wrong.

Much like the original Adventure Time, Fionna and Cake continues the trend of growing with its audience. Adventure Time got more mature (I know I'm using that word a lot, bear with me) across its ten season span, as its audience got older.

Distant Lands (at least what I've seen it) further solidifies this, and touches on episode ideas and themes that one couldn't do with a younger audience in mind, and thus we get episodes such as Obsidian.

Fionna and Cake is the same idea — its for the people who grew up with Adventure Time. The original audience are likely adults now, and thus a show has risen as to give them that Adventure Time fix whilst also delving into topics that literally wouldn't be allowed to be shown.

I haven't fully gathered my thoughts on the series yet, so I'll probably update this soon when they all come to me.
