BEEF (2023)
I went in expecting chicanery and pranks like something out of regular show, and ended up getting a surprisingly deep and introspective character study… like regular show. There was no angry gumball machine tho so you’re not getting 5 stars out of me. I watched this because of the Emmy’s and the fact this is the clear winner of all miniseries categories. And it was pretty good tbf. The acting is class all round, especially my boy Steven. I call him my boy like I’ve seen him in anything other than the 4 episodes of walking dead I’ve seen. It had great music drops and was pretty different. My only real complaints are that it’s not amazingly paced and is a bit of a slow burner. The middle chunk isn’t too great and almost all of it is settup, but the last 2 episodes are so utterly insane that it doesn’t fit with the rest of the show. If this show decided to be a fun prank war that escalates with subtle emotional themes or an intense character study that remained realistic I think it would work a lot better. As it stands I had a good time, but I’ll fully admit I’m going to move on from it quite quickly. Which I guess is what you’d want out of a miniseries? This will almost definitely win best miniseries as I barely know any other miniseries that even came out this year. OH ALSO HAPPY 1000TH REVIEW
