It feels impossible to rate this “season” of specials on the same scale as a normal season of television. Yes, it’s rushed, and the final episode in particular relies pretty heavily on montages and narration to wrap things up… but it’s hard to imagine how else the crew could have ended the story when they were only afforded three episodes for a final season. In spite of everything, the ending is incredibly charming, and (I think) as satisfying as it could be given the circumstances. There’s a lot of really wonderfully animated sequences in all three episodes as well that are SO fluid and expressive. The show is wearing its anime influences on its sleeves while simultaneously bringing something new to the table.
