Series Review: Saturday Morning All Star Hits!
Weird. . . . I liked it. Abbreviated as SMASH, Saturday Morning All Star Hits follows the VHS recordings of the self titled Saturday morning cartoon block, which sees not only the airing of episodes from multiple cartoon shows, but also the changing relationship between the block's twin costars, as well as other things that may come on to interrupt the block. This is essentially one big parody of 80s cartoons, whilst also having a bit of story happening inbetween said cartoons. The show covers a surprising number of bases. I was just expecting some silly cartoons, but this show plays on everything from rising celebrities, celebrity focused cartoons, kids' cartoons based on very not kid friendly movies, the rising edginess of cartoons, the backlash to said edginess and prompt 180 they made, and more. So yeah, I had a good bit of fun watching it. I do wish the story going on in the background had a bit more to it, though. For the first few episodes, I was getting the vibe this might go the Don't Hug Me I'm Scared route, but it really doesn't. Still, like I said, this is a fun parody of the state of American cartoons in the 80s. Apparently there's talk about a potential 2nd season poking fun at another decade in animation. If that happens, I'll be looking forward to it.
Saturday Morning All Star Hits gets a 7.25/10 (Good)
