I feel incredibly conflicted about season three of The Owl House.
The first episode is basically perfect. Its pacing is phenomenal, the character development is amazing, and the plot progression is great. So much happens in this episode, its easily a contender for best episode of the whole show.
Unfortunately, the following two episodes fail to live up to the expectations set by the first episode.
Its blatantly obvious that there was more to this story, and Disney's decision to cancel the show sent what was planned careening far off course. The pacing is all over the place, so many ideas and characters are left by the wayside, seemingly forgotten as Luz's final character arc is rushed to the finish line. What's there is still very fun, but no matter how hard it tries, the show can't hide the fact that it was cancelled early and they were just rushing to the end as fast as they could.
The biggest victim of this cancellation was easily The Collector. I was very interested in his character when he was being built up and finally revealed in season two, but in season three, he's just a letdown. I can only describe him as a vastly less interesting version of Bill Cipher, who's character arc is rushed so quickly that he might as well have not even been in the show at all. It's a real shame too, because I absolutely love his theme song, and I wish he was giving the development he deserved.
However, with all of that said, season three of The Owl House is still fun, very fun in fact. The animation is great, and the fights are easily some of the best I had ever seen in a children's show. I had a blast watching it, but based on what was seen in season two and the first episode of season three, there could have been so much more here.
Curse you Disney, you've ruined yet another great thing.
