Blessed with gold-fish memory, I obviously do not remember detailed stories of previous seasons. But I do remember that I have watched all three earlier seasons and liked the first one the most. Nevertheless, The Sinner is structured as an anthology series that investigates one specific strange crime each season. Hence, I still can dive straight in and enjoy season 4 despite occasional struggles to recall some details of Detective Ambrose’s past (the only connecting threads from one season to the next).
Season 4 takes Detective Ambrose to a small fishing town of Clark Harbor for a holiday with his girlfriend. While the recently retired Detective is there, a tragedy involving the powerful local family – The Muldoon- strikes and he cannot help but to be involved in the investigation. The whodunnit story for the season started with the disappearance of Percy Muldoon, granddaughter of the fierce and mysterious matriarch, Meg Muldoon. Powered by the small-town setting, everyone is a suspect: from the ex-boyfriend, the not-so-secret-admirer, as well as every single member of The Muldoons and The Lams (Muldoon’s rival family).
With so many potential suspects, it may be difficult to keep up with all the secrets and hidden agendas that are slowly but surely revealed by Ambrose. You may need a pen and paper to list all down, in order to be able to connect all the dots that will lead you to the final suspect. Or you can just relax and let Netflix recaps serve as the faithful reminder at the beginning of each episode 😝
