Tales of the Walking Dead is a bit of a strange entry into the Walking Dead canon. An anthology series that takes some wild swings to play with different subgenres of horror, explores humanity’s endurance, resilience and complexity, and looks at different aspects of the TWDU.
It doesn’t all work, whether its retreading well worn themes, or playful experimentation that is interesting more than its good, and sadly half the episodes are more dry and sluggish than anything, but there’s a great core here and some real interesting stuff at play. It expands upon the world in some cool and engaging ways, even if the episodes themselves fail to live up to its potential, and an anthology series in the TWD universe is a brilliant idea in general.
It may not all work, it may not be even near being as great as it could be, Tales of the Walking Dead is a fascinating little show, with the freedom to play with the world in strange and compelling ways.
