Going into this show without any knowledge on it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Watching the pilot I was sceptical about whether I’d enjoy this show but after the first Matt episode (1x3) I was hooked. The single character based episodes made for some of the best episodes in the whole series and added so much more depth to the characters which is why their so great (except for Meg🖕). The leftovers is on par with six feet under for being one of the most emotional shows I’ve watched. Seeing how characters deal with grief is so interesting’ unlike six feet under the family of the departures don’t get closure as they never know if their family and friends will return which makes their grief so much harder to accept. What makes it harder for people to move on is the guilty remnant as they’re a reminder of how there’s no real meaning to life. On a less depressing note religion is a big part of the leftovers is religion makes sense as one of the main characters is a priest and the main character could be the messiah. I like the science vs religion aspects as people choose to believe one or the other to cope with grief and give the departure a reason. This show is so visually stunning and has some of my favourite cinematography in tv, my favourite shot being Kevin and Patti watching the world end in 3x7. Don’t know how I haven’t mentioned the soundtrack yet but it’s the best in tv, it’s crazy how the producers can match a song so perfectly to a scene.

The characters in this show are amazing. Watching them try to cope with the departure was so sad but entertaining. Kevin is such an underrated protagonist and watching his internal conflicts with Patti and watching him go crazy lead to some of the highest peaks in the show. I love how the show uses ‘Where is my mind’ to show Kevin slowly go mental (fight club reference). The fact that he searched so long for Nora 😭 and their final conversation was so well written. Nora is probably my number 1 female character in tv or definitely up there. In the end she got what she always wanted, closure. But she didn’t even stay with them because they did what she couldn’t and moved on, leading her to live in the middle of nowhere, She’s real af. So glad her and Kevin got a happy ending tho one of the best tv romances oat. I love my boy Matt can’t believe out of all of the shit that happened to Kevin he died first. Matt’s arc was so good and I think his talk with god was a perfect way to end it. I can’t finish this review without talking about Patti, honestly such a great antagonist and her dynamic with Kevin even though she died in season 1 she lived rent free in Kevin to the very last season and gave us one of the best dynamics in the show. Writing these series reviews makes me appreciate these shows so much more. So grateful that I got to experience this show with no spoilers as the whole show is based on the unexpected.
