A real solid starter to a show being a love letter to film and satire of the Hollywood system The Studio was a pretty great surprise, it’s tight pace, episodic like structure, electric cast, hilarious comedy and satirical energy all made it a really great first season that has me wanting more especially with what β€œHollywood” trends it can parody, give homage to or satirize next and also the many celebrity cameos it has lmao. Albeit the season does somewhat lose itself during the middle chunk of episodes making a lot of its subtle references, themes or jokes super in your face but it all lands well during those final 3 episodes that wrap the season in a nice bow although I would’ve wanted a bit more length to be honest to explore more of the cast which is what the first 3 episodes did. Either way Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen did a great job making a show that is not only hilarious and pretty well written, but super duper well made from the directing and camerawork that had me in awe multiple times that somehow is better shot than most mainstream movies nowadays. GIVE US SEASON 2 SOON.

The Revolution Starts Now Andor S1 is one of my favorite pieces in Star Wars that I was quite hesitant towards a S2 especially since there was an announcement on how the season would handle a 5 year storyline within a single season of television under 12 episodes split into 4 arcs and thankfully, not only did it completely surpass my expectations but it really put Andor in the conversation as one of the most important pieces of storytelling within the TV landscape. It accomplishes almost everything that S1 built up if not better and manages to be such a wonderful, powerful and emotional experience of television that manages to have cathartic moments of character, breathtaking visuals, intricate dialogue and a beautiful ending that leads to the bittersweet tragedy of Rogue One. I’m satisfied with this being my last rodeo with the franchise and thankful a show that’s slow, complex, political and character focused managed to get picked up by Disney and ended up being some of the best television out there. fav episode: 2x8: Who Are You?

Welcome to the Rebellion Through the years, really ever since 2021 my personal relationship with Star Wars wasn’t that great mainly by the flat storytelling, over reliance of surface level characters as well as fan service, lack of spectacle and all being TV shows that didn’t capture the magic or dedication of the movies feeling more like corporate machines than actual stories. So upon the buildup for Andor, I was a bit nervous since this was during the entire downfall with my love of the franchise after the awful Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett but also being questioned by why tell a story for a character I don’t really care for and know is dead in Rogue One, but after witnessing the power of S1 and now of S2 I can confidently say that Andor is not only the best and most well made Star Wars project in years but maybe my favorite form of Star Wars media right behind the likes of 1977’s A New Hope. This show is SPECIAL, everything, every aspect, every second, every moment there’s a form of artistic expression from creator/writer Tony Gilroy that I wanted from this franchise to cover for so long and all of the executions are quite flawless. The characters are S tier not only for Star Wars but in television. Typically in Star Wars, it’ll be very artificial and titular with how it presents the characters but with Andor it presents this band of characters as not just people for a plot but as incredibly raw, human, complex and real that never come off as cheap or as a joke. The characters spawning from Cassian, Luthen, Bix, Syril, Dedra, Mon, Marva etc. are pitch perfect for this show that tackles ideas of rebellion, systems under imperial fascism and the sacrifices the smallest people give for the outcome of wanting peace and justice in a galaxy under pretty much galactic slavery and control. It feels crazy for me to even describe those ideas and themes from a Disney+ show that’s typically known for bland content but this is TRUE AND PRESTIGE TELEVISION that manages to tell a compelling story and narrative to care for. To continue off the praise I have for Andor, I truly love the wonderful scale this show has with the visual presentation, filmmaking wise but also with other elements like the masterclass of music by Nicholas Britell and Brandon Rogers, classic but heavy sound mixes making every moment feel heart pumping, the gorgeous and movie level cinematography and those moments of pure artistic freedom by the crew that doesn’t feel cheap or interfered by Disney’s typical soulless nature. Now many can be mixed towards the pacing of Andor but for a guy like me who prioritizes the importance of characters, dialogue and fascinating commentary, Andor does that and albeit the way the show mainly S2 is structured with arcs could come off as a bit too fast for the pace, it doesn’t take away the sheer beauty and depth of how every scene and moment is presented and comparing it to seasons of TV like Twin Peaks: The Return or The Leftovers S2 , Andor really accomplishes and makes those moments we find confusing or pointless at first to all be great and feel satisfying by the end because it leads to something greater which is another thing about Andor is how smart it treats the audience of understanding the world making us know how the show approaches complexity and when to know if these characters we’re rooting should head to a better or worse direction as people. By the end of the 2 season show that runs in the span of 6 years that has no Jedi, lightsabers or much fan service, I’m overall glad a show for a character I didn’t fully latch onto back in 2016 now exists and honestly makes him a top tier Star Wars character and his fate/sacrifice in Rogue One far more beautiful but also tragic which in the end Andor is all about. The sacrifices we make as a community for the greater good of humanity against control and oppression. Thank you Tony Gilroy for this show and truly setting the bar with what Star Wars can do, it’s gonna be hard to even come towards the scale and depth of what this show did since everyone else is focused towards hype moments and fan service but I don’t care because this show honestly puts the franchise in bed, the perfect leeway between the prequels and original trilogy. Started as an experimental comedy that was built towards studying the way people act to one of the most fascinating studies of comedian Nathan Fielder and his connection towards scenarios that are fake/rehearsed and as the season rolls, it becomes more devastating and honestly terrifying to see how much closer he’s become to this act of The Rehearsal. This overall was just incredible and a phenomenal concept done well within 6 episodes, Nathan Fielder is a genius that really broke down heavy philosophical elements as episodes rolled on and on that makes S1 of The Rehearsal one of the most pleasantly engaging and complex seasons of TV ever made. fav episode: 1x4: The Fielder Method

welcome to THE PITT Now while not being inherently the most connected to medical dramas or soap operas as they always felt either too long or overly dramatic, I’m glad that The Pitt was not only really good at displaying the work environment of an American hospital with its quirks, problems and challenges but also as a season of television containing some of the most fascinating, depth heavy and complex writing for its cast of excellent characters as well as dive on real-life topics it manages to breakdown in a very strong and engaging way. I was hooked to this, similarly to The Bear’s first season which in many ways I could compare this too especially with how it has episodes of pure chaos, competition for its ideal location, messy dynamics with its cast, an ending of pure humanity, emotional catharsis and a protagonist who’s great at their job but has some internal issue with a past tragedy that they have to cope with. Regardless of those similarities which albeit are still very strong aspects of the show, I think the way it handled the whole season takes place within one day format was truly fantastic and gave excellent timing for the entire ensemble to have their moments to shine and offer beautiful moments of humanity, sincerity and real emotion especially Noah Wyle who was a force here as Dr. Robby, Emmy worthy performance. Cannot wait to see more of where this show will be headed in its future seasons. fav episode: 1x13: 7:00 PM

Now I wouldn’t put this on S2’s pedestal as that really set a high bar for the show to meet but The White Lotus S3 was a great season of television that really shows how heavily spiritual it is as with previous seasons discussing other topics like class and exploitation for S1 & sex and ideas of identity for S2, I really really loved how each episode ran it became more about the ideas of faith, beliefs, spiritual connection and how all these implemented ideas either make its cast of characters come closer with each other or far more destructive which was all fascinatingly told within this 8 episode structure. I found all of its new band of characters to be truly great huge shoutouts to Walton Goggins, Amie Lou Wood, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Carrie Coon, Parker Posey and Leslie Bibb for being the absolute MVPs they were and even if at times, there were plot points that did feel left out within the season to give more heavier attention to the others, I think with where it all left them by the end overall left me satisfied enough with that journey overall. S3 is a great continuation of this already chaotically gorgeous looking and complex series that still has the classic energetic charm of the previous 2 but really sets its own identity with not only new locations of Thailand but with also how it sets its themes. fav episode: 3x8: Amor Fati

Never been more over. As always a great finale from a great season but yeah this made me appreciate a whole lot of the buildup towards the season even more especially with how everything came to resolution in bittersweet, tragic and spiritually fascinating ways. Mike White really shows the seasonal themes’ focus a lot in the finales and this clearly shows with the ideas of spirituality, death and beliefs which I really liked especially with how it was all displayed for each of the storylines to wrap up. Still processing it cuz plenty of things happened but yeah, great end and gimme like 11 more seasons of this show.

Storytelling within the television landscape to me is always the most emotionally impactful out of any other form of storytelling, since it’s able to spend a ton of time mainly developing its characters and the journey they go on while also creating the investment you have towards them especially if they’re complexly written or if the actors are just giving S tier performances and Adolescence is exactly that. A 4 episode miniseries that was just devastating, uncomfortable and flat out depressing but also inherently important to our current landscape with the topics it discusses that a lot of mainstream storytelling tends to ignore or keep safe. It breaks those boundaries and thankfully I’m glad it did because it creates such a moving yet devastating story that makes us in many ways worried about our current landscape of social media and toxic structures but also how those structures of alt-right red pill platforms can actively harm the youth and lead them to dangerous places as this show does with not only its central character Jamie but a ton of the background characters of his age. To get a bit personal here, I’ve always feared this for many children and had a conversation with my therapist about this in which how society now is more likely regressive and hating towards each other because of social media, alt-right movements and bringing back traditional hatred against marginalized groups that in many ways I felt this show does reflect upon and its fucking terrifying to just think of the constant lives at risk within social media that may be Jamie’s age being exposed to these things and actively using those as harm for not only others but themselves that in many ways, us as people and hopefully if we have kids raise them with the proper care, love and most importantly dedication of protection that such heinous things like threats, derogatory comments or even the worst of death that many parents now fail to even care about when it comes to overall safety of their children. We need to be progressive as humans, not live in regressive hatred of now and lean towards the outdated past that’ll lead to far more destructive consequences for our future. I found pretty much everything with this show to be absolutely flawless from its incredible performances that were wonderful throughout giving heavy theatre energy big shoutout to Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper (MVP) for their masterful works here, the monumental usage of the oner camera techniques every episode making this feel in some ways claustrophobic but also shorter than it should be for all the events its characters have to face per episode and of course as mentioned earlier, it being able to handle such mature, deep and sensitive topics in a very promising and real manner that had me constantly engaged and blown away by especially since this is a Netflix original which is a company that lacks any interesting depth with a ton of their original works. Some of my criticisms could involve with the overall structure of the show as even if it does offer such excellent commentary and complex themes for its characters to go on, I do wish they explored a bit more in other areas within the show like giving maybe an episode or two to develop some more of the youth social space as well as the law enforcement and their corruption but regardless it’s extremely minimal. The best kinds of stories are the ones that challenge us, move us and overall have a meaningful message to say and Adolescence pretty much does that, cannot recommend this series enough and bless both Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham for co-creating this soul crushing yet compelling story of trauma, violence, toxic masculinity, grief and hatred. Overall Rating: 9.6/10 Episodes Ranked 1. Episode 3 2. Episode 4 3. Episode 1 4. Episode 2 Top 5 Scenes 1. Jamie’s Meltdown (Episode 3) 2. β€œI’m Should’ve Done Better” (Episode 4) 3. FUCKING WITH THIS SO HEAVY WHAT THE HELL. Incredible start to a show that has a ton of promise, love this cast of incredibly dynamic and hysterically funny actors as well as real celebrity cameos (Marty’s was an all-timer), the directing and one take scenes are soooo damn good and constantly had me locked in, the dialogue is excellent and I’ve been waiting for a project from a mainstream company like Apple to releasee a show that pretty much deconstructs Hollywood executives and their systems for taking profit over actual sincerity since I’ve been a protester of the current Hollywood system and how there should be a heavier push of more human and artistry films than straight slop like a Kool Aid movie. Can’t wait for more of where this show will be heading.

One of the greatest introductions to a TV show goddamn. Nothing short but just impressive from the way this prime time television show produced by ABC is so thought provoking, character centric, super well acted and also just really really well written which is just mind blowing for me. Instantly by the first episode this is one of the most investing starters for a show ever, Damon Lindelof and JJ Abrams went all in with creating a mystery that I know has plenty of directions to go but at really for me, introduced a ton of wonderful characters that I was so invested by already halfway through which says something cuz I still have nearly 100 more of these characters. So excited to see the direction this show will go in future seasons cuz this was really exciting to watch from the emotionally incredible moments, complex characters, spiritual themes and plenty of β€œwhat the fuck I need to watch the next episode” moments. God bless television fav episode: 1x20: Do No Harm

So fucking funny seeing pretty much everyone become even more unhinged because of all the events that occurred to them last episode lmao. Had a really good time with this episode, loved the entire aftermath of how everything was handled from last week’s and just seeing how everyone is and reacted to those events is just hysterical, Patrick Schwarzenegger easy MVP of the episode holy shit was he great at just giving the most uncomfortable reactions after getting more and more insight on his incident 😭. The whole Ratliff family as well as Chelsea and Chloe here were excellent, loved so much of what was going on with them and with the other characters although weren’t as interesting and have some weak sauce compared to the previous episodes, I do think this episode will be such a fascinating bridge to the next episode where I’m expecting SHIT TO GO DOWN!

While I do believe the first season is a bit better, mainly due to its more consistent structure as this did feel a bit too fast during the 2nd half, Severance S2’s highs are some of the best TV out there I mean goddamn. Not only does it really go out for its characters giving them far greater challenges, struggles and internal conflicts but really gives them even more depth and fascinating stories between their inner and outer lives within and how they coexist with each other. The way the show keeps evolving with the mystery box structure is still brilliant I love that shit with it constantly giving answers yet like classic Severance, sets up more questions and I’m interested to see how the future of the show but also its characters will discover those questions the show sets up. Everything with the visuals, production and directing here is flawless with it easily being a step up from S1 giving the world a much greater lens and scope that really had me blown away multiple times with how they even filmed this. To wrap it up, although it being flawed with its pace the second season of Severance is quality television with it not only having brilliantly written characters and a wonderful story but a ton of incredible emotional moments and masterclass of directing. Cheers to everyone who’s apart of this show fav episode: 2x07: Chikhai Bardo

Sam Rockwell having the classic celebrity cameo of the season and also having the most batshit insane monologue ever 😭 Been said before but the VIBES this show has are just extraordinary especially here in this episode. Loved the usage of night club spectacle, party lights and night lighting that gives this episode such a kick ass vibe that the show never fails at. Also it’s so dope that this episode took place all within one night and how all the storylines were interwoven pretty much flawlessly here, highlights were easily Belinda and Rick’s. Super interested to see what will happen within these next 3 episodes cuz man WE ARE EATING GOOD.

Severance (2022)

S02 E09 Β· The After Hours
Really strong stuff here without a doubt. Found a lot of the storylines for each of the characters to all be really well done especially for Milchik (goat of the season), Irving/Burt and Dylan. Everyone else’s was also really good but I think it mainly comes down to my main issue with the episode which is the pace just felt a bit too fast for a lot of the characters’ stories to intertwine than feel more natural as at times it does feel a bit detrimental to how this episode mainly wants to both wrap up but also set up a ton of things but because of how oddly it moves at times, feels a bit unnatural. Regardless everything here was just beautifully done with the characters as I’ve already said but goddamn it’s heartbreaking as well for mainly Dylan and Irving, having to come to conclusive terms with their lives in the most devastating ways possible which makes me want to give them a big hug holy shit. Ending was as always hype, so fascinated to what will happen to Mark and Helly’s fates as well as for everyone else. Till Next Week

Pretty fun episode that takes the cast to a bunch of new locations both on shore and off. The show continuously proves season to season how well it can mix different storylines and characters together super well and this episode does exactly that mainly with everything that happened in the yacht which was definitely my favorite part of the episode. I am interested to see where this season is headed especially with how it leaves so many fateful decisions for its characters like Rick, Ratliff and Belinda which I’m all nervous yet excited for. Wasn’t really the biggest fan of the stuff happening with the 3 girlfriends as it didn’t really do much outside of creating a stupidly funny moment of them getting hit with water but yeah, good stuff overall can’t wait for the back half of the season.

S02 E08 Β· Sweet Vitriol
Although for me this is definitely the weakest episode of the show, it still offers quality stuff that Severance is known for. Patricia Arquette is fucking masterful here giving a really raw, trauma heavy and emotional performance, I really liked how heavily this episode focused on with the town rather than the corporate setting, the twists said for Cobel as a character were all excellent and extremely tragic and even if I was a bit iffy on the pace because of how this season had hit after hit of storytelling that it does feel like a bit of a downgrade to have something more character centric and slower, it’s still solid regardless and gave me heavy vibes of The Leftovers’ solo character episodes which I do love. Ending was hype and I truly cannot wait to see how this season will conclude.

A perfect example of great buildup and flawless execution. S2 of Vinland Saga improves many of the things S1 has for me and truly makes this show become far more character centric and spiritual than its first season predecessor. Every character is far more complex, well thought out of and given heavier elements of backstory, depth and humanity, in many ways this season especially during its back half really gave me heavy Terrence Malick vibes at points with how it’d become in some ways therapeutic showing such beautiful imagery of naturalistic locations, monologues that are often emotional and many many discussions of life, death and spirituality which are topics I love. This is a masterclass of storytelling when it comes to show the human spirit both the flaws and beauty of it and honestly I cannot wait for the directions this show will go on cuz goddamn this season really put this story of warriors and legends in a completely new pedestal. fav episode: 2x20: Pain

Sets out what it wants to be and is overall solid but just has a few decisions that in some way baffle me. Characters are fine enough, visually it’s a bit bland but most of the night scenes are well shot, music is killer so far and the performances are definitely the highlights. Seeing Michael Gandolfini here was dope and I genuinely hope this show does progress into a better quality because there are choices done here that I found odd especially with Fisk somehow becoming mayor after S3 stated that β€œthe city turned against him” and now they’re not to just be odd. Hoping for better episodes but this wasn’t bad πŸ™

S02 E07 Β· Chikhai Bardo
MOVIE LEVEL QUALITY STORYTELLING HERE It’s been said billions of times that this show visually is a masterpiece and looks incredible but this is a new level of stylistic perfection. The usage of warm colors, locations that feel off of a romance film and the music being more intimate makes this another all-timer episode of the show. It gives many many answers we’ve been waiting for but builds more questions for the show and it’s fascinating. At its best, it gives the most beautiful and devastating backstories for Mark and Gemma and makes Lumon the most evil fuckers alive. Heavy heavy Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind vibes here, can’t believe we live in a time where a show like this even exists.

On rewatch, I found a lot more to love about this especially with greater context with The Return but also just really letting this film sit with me during its runtime. The first 30 mins are a somewhat confusing but a great retrospect and twist on the typical Twin Peaks detective like structure and then after that becomes one of the most devastating and powerful character studies in film. It’s wonderfully shot, beautifully scored, well performed by its cast, adds greater context and depth to the original show and has honestly for me the most powerful and emotionally draining ending I’ve seen from a movie. S03 E01 Β· Same Spirits, New Forms
Pretty solid premiere that although being similar to the previous two but regardless there’s a ton of interesting stuff shown for the season’s set up. New murder soon to happen, cast of characters are all pieces of shit that have some bond that’s broken or odd right now that will get worse as the season will progress, speaking of the cast all the introductions to them is great and it’s awesome that Carrie Coon, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey and Walton Goggins are new cast mates to the show and WHAT THE FUCK but Greg is back??? 😭 Really interesting how they’ll utilize his character and how he basically used Tanya’s money from S2 just to end up in the same like scenario lmao. Overall interested to see where the season is headed.

A show that is far from perfect but I do hold pretty close to my heart. I’ve been a fan of Cobra Kai since it premiered back in 2018 on YouTube Red and now that’s its been 7 years and 6 seasons of the show have all aired, it gives me a weird feeling of nostalgia and the memories this show built for me. Nostalgia is a powerful tool, it’s potent and related to something we hold dear too, mainly the past and this show elevates on that really well. It’s odd that a legacy sequel to the Karate Kid Trilogy focusing on the first film’s central antagonist sounds like a really odd idea but Cobra Kai handles it really well, everything with most of its characters mainly protagonist Johnny Lawrence is all really great and an easy standout for me of this show, it gives a ton of them pretty meaningful journeys that have ups and downs, parallels to the original Karate Kid trilogy and conclusions that for the most part satisfied me, both the adults storylines and teens storylines are well done and offer great drama as well as really somber moments that feel sincere and have care put to them, that it definitely is the most consistent thing about this show. Now with the ideas of consistency, this show absolutely backfires on that post S3 as it becomes pretty absurd and almost formulaic with its storytelling and repetitive nature with the plot, it becomes a less grounded story on the uprising of someone who lost their peak decades ago and becomes a high school soap opera full of wars and conflicts almost out of a superhero movie and even if it isn’t really the most well done compared to S1, it is really fun entertainment and is still sprinkled of those great moments of character that S1 has. It’s a weird show because with these criticisms I’ve addressed mainly with its consistency and absurdist tone, it’s still maybe the most sincere legacy sequel to exist in this era of cashing in classics as it offers really strong characters, is aware of its tone and stupidity, cares for the audiences investment and concludes in an overall satisfying way that definitely will make me miss it as the show surprisingly has a pretty strong ending even if it did feel rushed. I’m gonna miss this show, it’s not perfect at all, hell it could be bad sometimes especially with the laughable, corny dialogue and acting but it has something that is missing with other legacy sequels which is sincerity, and when something is sincere it’s more likely I’ll be appreciative of it no matter of how dumb it will get.
