Truly a phenomenal season and one of the most overhated of all time. Unbelievably entertaining and so crucial to the world building and future Jax development. Without this season there is no Papa’s Goods, and it’s a shame so few people recognize that.
More so than any other in the show, this season tackled what it is to be a good father and how raising a family and being SOA co-exist. We also got the deepest look into John Teller, and for a character who is reserved to other character’s stories and voiceovers, he is remarkably fleshed out and complex, and the foreshadowing involving him this season is insane.
I do agree with the common criticism that this season meanders in the middle, but I think that’s only really prevelant when binging. It takes them ages to get the main plot going, but the things they do from episode to episode feel organic and necessary for the most part. I think the only glaring issue the season has is a lack of meaningful character moments for the supporting cast, and the first episode in Ireland being boring. Other than that this season is genuinely great.
And speaking of Ireland, that arc is EXTREMELY strong I can’t believe so many people think it’s the weakest section of the show. The twists and turns are plentiful, the location change is refreshing and gorgeous, Jimmy is a solid antagonist, Chibs development, two remarkable episodes, gripping atmosphere… I wouldn’t argue if someone said this season’s last 5 episodes are the strongest portion of the first 3 seasons 🤷♂️
Oh and yeah, this season has “NS”… enough said.
