Truly wish that this show wasn’t so rooted in the “horror” genre because I think everyone, especially white people, need to watch it. I have read all kinds of reviews of it being “over the top” or “overtly racist” or “took it too far”… but if you believe that you need a actual coarse in Americas history. This show did a FANTASTIC job of portraying what it “must have” been like being black in America in the 1950s. I say “must have” as I am not black, so I will never truly understand what it means to be black in America today, let alone what it was like back then. This was a very psychological, haunting, brutal, Gorey, haunting depiction of modern society. It did have subtle messages throughout but was extremely in your face about the messages it was trying to portray. This won’t have you Googling explanations after, which could be a good or bad thing. I gave it a 4.5/5 as there were some scenes that didn’t get “explained” and while it was very easy to fill in the blanks, the show did such a fine job of explaining all avenues that even tho it didn’t effect anything, I felt those scenes could have been omitted or more completion. P.S. there is a “scene” that everyone seems to think is to much and just added for “snuff” effect. I don’t hate anyone for not watching this show due to the brutality shown, but for the story telling THIS ABSOLUTELY was necessary. That sole trauma leads to everything that the characters experience before and after the scene.
