An enjoyable and well made miniseries, but I feel like the ending wasn’t as rewarding as I would’ve liked. I expected Jeb to fully come to terms with his loss of faith and at least begin the conversation with his family, but it kind of seemed like it was glossed over. I did like the ending scene with his mom where he says something along the lines of the miracle of life being enough to keep him going. However, I would’ve liked to know if Jeb just sat back and let his children continue to be faithful to a religion that reduces women to servants of their husbands, or if he at least tried to show them the truth.
I also didn’t really care for the flashbacks to the past which recounted Joseph Smith’s story. I get the parallels that were created but it dragged on at times. The episodes could’ve been shorter in my opinion.
3.5 stars seems harsh but it’s a 7/10 for me
