This show did not do its characters any favors especially the lead character looking foolish and annoying and while that's the point of the comedy it was trying to be which made for a rocky watch throughout. Patricia Arquette entirely and properly dives into her columbo like character of being smarter than how she presents herself but the nature of her presentation came out a bit annoying. Brad Garrett has definitely been given much better material and for that he seems like he has been sleep walking through this material, but it is still great to see him manage comedy once again. The mystery was so convoluted that it was difficult to care about the people involved, the feelings that those characters were actually going through, or the plot that was happening to them. This season had so much thrown into the story that it was difficult for it to have any type of focus and therefore nothing was given the proper attention throughout the particular story. The series wanted to touch upon addiction and how it could affect someone and the many people around that particular someone, but it barely gave that situation the proper attention and therefore felt disingenuous. The dark comedy balance of any story can always be tricky but this series does not pull it off in any decent way as the intention of the tone does not seem terribly clear. Cliffhangers are not strange to season finales but this one does not feel like it completes the story of this season properly leaving things hanging narratively and generally unsatisfying. This series is currently able to be streamed on AppleTV+
