Columbo (1971)
Huh I'd really swear I reviewed this one. Probably one of the sillier episodes but in terms of celebrity gets, unbeatable. Robbie the Robot?? I'd be starstruck! I'd ask the people operating it if it could say "Danger, Columbo! Danger! Danger!" just for the sheer thrill of it. Which does make some of it slightly goofier than the show's been before - a child genius (distractingly named Stephen Spelberg), a robot running war games, Columbo having to figure out what to do with his dog while doing his investigations. But who can complain when you've got the great Jose Ferrer there as well? A young Jessica Walter squaring off against another of the greatest TV detectives of all time? If only we were able to have her guest star in a Columbo meets Gene Parmesan crossover. And it really just proves... you can be the director of the Genius Mind Institute or whatever the hell it's called, but that doesn't mean you know how to plan a murder. Another entry in the "Columbo abuses his police powers" chronicles as he falsely accuses Ferrer's son and arrests him on false pretenses, all to bully Ferrer into confessing. It's the closest Columbo is to not really having "proof" so he has to stoop to trickery to get a confession.
