What bothers me about this adaptation is that it cannot commit to one side. They're trying to make the main characters morally grey but then they make them do such clearly heroical and unequivocally good things as if to say "Look, they're not upstanding characters! They do some pretty condemnable things. BUT LOOK! LOOK!!! They did something that is undoubtedly good and praiseworthy! INSIDE they're good!!!!!!!" Passepartout's betrayal arc ends after one serious attempt, after which he even gives the money back and he doesn't really steal, he just returns the White Snake to the rightful owner. Fogg is being unappreciative of Passepartout but he's also such a hero in so many situations. 

It's hard to root for them, because they don't seem to be as focused on the journey as they should be. Much more happens during the stops than during the actual travel. The original Fogg bribing the ship captain to get them to Bombay faster and stealing an elephant to get to Allahabad - all of his gray morality was rooted in him wanting to complete the journey on time. And, yes, he could also be a hero (see: rescuing Passepartout or Aouda (who also seems to be cut out of this adaptation, shame on whoever made that decision for cutting out my favourite character)) but it wasn't as nauseating as here.
