Alias (2001)
I watched this with my family and it has taken us sooooo long to get through it, always finding and watching other shows instead. We probably watched at least 6 other shows/seasons during the time it took us to finish this. Pretty sure it was three years ago we started. But we always said if there were nothing else to watch, there will always be Alias. It didn’t take us so long to watch it because it was boring. It most definitely wasn’t. This was Abrams and Giacchino testing out their skills and they did so perfectly. My fav things about this show are the 1. Characters. 2. Cinematography. 3. Twists. And 4. Score. The characters are the kinds you grow with as you watch them. They’re so fun and they feel like your friends. You even like some of the villains. The cinematography is so solid. The show looks best when it’s in the dark, in very high contrast lighting. Dark darks and light lights. The grain makes me eyegasm. It just looks so mature that even in some of the cornier scenes you can still really take it seriously. This show has the best twist I’ve seen in anything. It’s like in season 2 or something and I remember my heart stopping and my chin touching the floor. Finally, the score. Giacchino my beloved. Sounds like the Lost score but with less of a soul. Not really any specific leitmotifs. But it sets the vibe really well. All in all, I love this show and I’ll probably miss it. Even though I’m pretty sure every character here died at least twice throughout. I loved the “thanks for five amazing years” at the end. I wish shows still did that.
