I’ve been watching this show since it began, and broadly speaking, I’ve enjoyed it a lot. The early seasons were a bit messy plot wise, but drew you in with this seductive, almost dream-like atmosphere of 80s LA, which reminded me a bit of Michael Mann films.
The narrative became much tighter once the writers realised that Franklin was by far the most interesting character and focused their attentions there. The later seasons therefore become much darker, both visually and tonally, as it follows this Scorsese-esque “downfall of man” plot. Damson Idris really sells this is the leading role, and the rest of cast deliver great performances as well.
I have developed a real affection for this show and I will miss it.
