Sometimes you come across a piece of art that's so incredible, so unbelievably perfect, as equally thought challenging as it is emotionally charged and impactful, that trying to put your love for it into words seems insurmountable, and even if you did, the people reading it would probably assume you're a blubbering moron or will just think to themselves "I still don't understand what's so great", to me, ODDTAXI is one of those pieces of art. But I'm gonna try to do it anyway.
From the very beginning of its opening, with its perfect introduction to the ensemble cast, beautifully calming water color-esque backgrounds, and incredibly soothing, slightly mysterious theme, fully sets up the unmatchable atmosphere, tone, and intrigue into one of the most well written and connected stories every put to paper. A story that has themes of obsession, mental illness, greed, addiction, justice, all seemingly disconnected yet so intrinsically linked, much like the characters themselves, characters who are ominous, funny, strange, sometimes downright disturbed, but still oh-so ironically and understandably human. And it caps itself off with twists that are shocking, occasionally bizarre and unnerving, while being narratively logical and satisfying, as well as flawlessly executed.
It doesn't matter if you like anime (this doesn't even follow any of the tropes, or the traditional art-style, it's only stuck with the label because of where it was made), it doesn't matter if you don't like television, it doesn't even matter if you don't like animation, if you enjoy the art of storytelling, you owe it to yourself to experience ODDTAXI, it is an artistic triumph, without question the best show I've ever seen.
