i have some truly unnecessarily complicated feelings about this episode. so — on one hand, i get why this season ends the way it does. it would feel painfully unfair to lake if she got an unhappy ending after everything, so she gets what she wants. and who doesn't love a happy ending? 

on the other hand, it feels... rushed, maybe? it doesn't exactly sit right. there's something just slightly unsatisfying about it all. i know, hope and self-actualisation is the whole point, but there's a part of me inclined to say that this story should've been tragic, that it would make the most sense for lake to have been stuck on the train forever — or at least be given a number in an open ending. getting to live in the real world with jesse feels just a little too good to be true.

this ending is good enough for the 11 minute time constraint they're working with. i just wish it were more emotionally resonant. or something.
