Since the release of Season 2, I’ve finally read the complete Witcher saga (which includes season of storms sadly) and replayed The Witcher 3, which really soured my thoughts on the second season. But this season has genuinely blown me away. Don’t get me wrong, I think the writing is still pretty weak at times and some of the blocking is very awkward. I’m also not a fan of the split release that Netflix has decided to do. But having said all that, they’ve been a lot more faithful to the original books and I’ve actually found myself engaging with a lot of the arcs and stories. I’ve been so excited to see how they were going to handle the Thaneed story, and it was pretty obvious where they were going to split this season up for the volumes because of this. Those last 2 episodes were genuinely really good. Especially episode 5. It blew me away. I was really happy with the production design, structure (which I appear to be in the minority of), cinematography, pacing, blocking, performances. It all came together perfectly, and the tension as a viewer that knew what was going to happen was surprisingly high! I think this season suffers from splitting it up, because the first 3 episodes are quite weak compared to the final 2. It seems like Netflix wasn’t confident enough in the season so they forced the cliffhanger split to retain the viewership. I’m really interested to see how they handle these last 2 episodes. It sucks that just when it feels like they’re getting back into a high quality tv show, we’re losing Henry Cavill. His chemistry with Anya Chalotra is on another level (they made me want to 📴 myself in ep 5 with THAT book scene) and anytime we see him bonding with Ciri or get more scenes with him and Jaskier it reminds me that we won’t be getting to see his version of Geralt with the gang from the books. Especially for the culmination of the series in Lady of the Lake with THAT fight. At least I get to see Milva soon!
