Barry (2018)
Barry drove me crazy in earlier seasons with how repetitive it was, even though I knew that was part of the point. The show was about the cycles, all of it's main characters trapped in loops of self-justification, attempts to change, and then catastrophic failure. My other issue with the series was it's comedy, and I guess my wish was granted on that front, but the heavy drama of this season just feels gruelling. I made the mistake of reading Josh Lewis' review before writing mine, but he definitely articulates that there's just not enough meat on the bones of the show's writing to justify this joyless tone. Still, the performances are great as always (particularly enjoyed tough guy Stephen Root, the only mode I really like Fuchs in), there's some memorable images, and I didn't mind the finale. If the show is ultimately about the stories we tell ourselves, the final few minutes pay that off in a thought provoking, mostly satisfying way.
