This short review is for part 1
I’ll simply divide this review into the good & the bad but first things first.
Henry is great like always, the best part about this whole damned abomination of an adaptation, the only one who cares about & respects about the source material. Losing him as geralt is the biggest L oat, losing him in his fucking dream role. All you had to do was follow the damn books & not make up bad fanfiction & literalt change what the characters are supposed to be & how they’re supposed to behave. They got the best choice possible to play geralt right at their doorsteps & they ruined it. The witcher had the potential to be one of the best fantasy live action stories oat, to bring that amazing complex & grey world full of choices & consequences, full of moral dilemmas, to the screen but they dropped the ball damn hard. Can’t do anything know expect to wait for the witcher 1 remake & witcher 4 replaying the witcher in the meantime. Cdpr writers are the only ones I trust with doing the themes & world of the witcher justice

•The thing I hated the most about season 2 other than the whole dogshit voleth meir fanfic they came up with was how it ruined yennefer’s character & her relationship with geralt & ciri for apparently no reason. And this time around I’m happy her character is done at least somewhat justice & she behaves like how she’s supposed to be, especially in the thanned coup. Altho I still feel yennefer should have been much older & mature but I’m content with what we have here. And the dear friend letter, wrong time it but I’m happy that we finally got it or at least some version of it, ig they finally realized that all the stuff in blood of elves they ignored was actually important instead of the dogshit fanfic they cooked up for season 2.
•We got vilgefortz & geralt’s convo from thanedd yess, the best scene of the season along with ciri on geralt’s piggback & one other scene I’ll mention in the last point.
•Small subtle references & details like yennefer making fun of sabrina’s dress, philippa forming the lodge, ciri ice skating, yennefer calling ciri ugly one, ciri & jaskier dubbing geralt & yen, stuff like that made me really happy.
•The music is finally fitting for the witcher world, it feels slavic & like how it was in the games.
•Cahir is done well but idk still about painting him as bad guy.
•Geralt’s armour this season actually seemed like the type of a light & durable armour geralt would wear.
•And we got yennefer & geralt’s “everything ends” convo & them having sex after the ball. My favourite part!

•Now even tho this season already has many things I like more than I did in season 2, the flaws & direspect towards the source material still outweighs the pros.
•The dialogue other than the dialogue from the books is really bad, like for some reason why are they trying to be so corny & edgy with all the f-bombs & atrocious nicknames, that is totally unlike the dialogue in this world.
•Too much time wasted on stregobor, the vilgefortz reveal should have been well focused.
•And thanedd ball felt more like modern day met gala than feeling like a medieval slavic ball.
•And I’m all for dandelion being bi, trust me he has always been bisexual in my headcanon, it’s his character & personality. But holy hell being in a relationship & falling for fucking radovid? That has to be the worst decision these writers have gone with and things like vesemir & yennefer almost sacrificing ciri, eskel turning into a leshen exist. I mean it’s sweet & all, but that’s fucking radovid, his literal moniker is “the stern”. I cannot see him without seeing the cruel bald pos he is.
•The Witcher 3 references like vespula, the fake wywern didn’t feel authentic at all to me.
•And oh my god what is going on with the redanian politics?
•Francesca & the whole elven plotine is such a waste of time. Idk what they’re trying to do with her.
•I like the action sequences but the blood feels overly cgi to me.
•Why do ciri & jaskier have so much overdone makeup? It’s supposed to be a fantasy show ffs.
•The world building still feels very much off, doesn’t feel like the world of the folklore slavic witcher but instead like modern day NY or LA. Why do these hollywood writers & showrunner think they can be better than the already incredible source material? Why do they feel the need to change it? Why fix it when it’s not broken in the first place?
•I love yennefer & geralt being together again but her getting back into his good graces that easily just doesn’t sit well with me and the time jump doesn’t help much. But this is more the fault of the atrocity they wrote for the last few episodes of season 2 than this season.
•One of the poorest writing choices in geralt just not killing rience when he easily could have. Rience is a stupid ass pawn but he’s not that stupid that he would believe ciri is just there in the middle of some elven ruins by herself plus geralt & ciri would never use ciri as bait for snything.
•Vilgerfortz still doesn’t feel like the threat he should to be, he’s supposed to he the main antagonist and yet he’s non-existent most of the times even when he’s on screen. They name dropped leo bonhart, I just hope they don’t ruin another antagonist.
