"Gotta light?" Unique. Masterful. Artful. Perfect. The 8th episode of The Return is something that we had never seen before, and that we won't ever see again. To see such an auteur play with filmmaking is a joy that we don't get to experience very often. The fact that Lynch had money and the freedom to do whatever he wanted is something I still struggle to believe. This episode breaks all the rules of conventional storytelling and delivers what's perhaps Lynch's most experimental product alongside Inland Empire. From beginning to end, we are left bewildered and wondering what's coming next, but we can't guess it.
