I interrupted my Superhero marathon for this watch in celebration of Victory in the Pacific day on September 5th. While there may be a slew of reasons why this one isn't quite as good as Band of Brothers, for me it's undoubtedly another 5-star production and one of the best television series ever to be produced, well, behind Band of Brothers of course. This Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg collaboration accurately depicts the human side, raw emotions and brutality of the last Great War and the tolls it took, both physically and mentally, on the Greatest Generation. Just about every episode is sobering and chilling in the depiction of the Hell on Earth that those who were called to fight in the Pacific theater on those charred volcanic spits of islands had to endure. It's a fantastic watch for history fans, war fans and cinema fans alike, and another one for my 5-star favorites list.
