i was so excited for this show and i was terrified they were gonna fuck it up based on some early reviews, but i’m SO HAPPY they were wrong!
i’ll start off by stating the obvious: the casting was phenomenal. riley keough as daisy is the most genius casting i’ve seen in a long time and she deserves so much praise for her performance. sam clafflin was obviously amazing as well. i don’t think anyone was surprised. i wasn’t sure at all about camila morrone’s acting in the first few episodes, but she really grew on me and did the role as much justice as she could! i wish the show’s camila was more book accurate but it is what it is. karen is probably in my top three favorites. i just see a lot of myself in her and she deserves all the happiness. i’m gonna be honest and say that i don’t care much for graham. he’s a good guy and all, but there’s just nothing special about him and i think he was the worst casting out of them all. but not bad i guess. we also got to see more of simone which i was happy about! warren was just there being iconic and unbothered and i was eating it up every single time.
someone who surprised me was josh whitehouse as eddie. i thought i wasn’t gonna like eddie because in the book he was kinda annoying and complained all the time, but josh really turned him into a likeable character with understandable motivations and most important of all — depth. i don’t think this was something the writers necessarily planned, i think it was all him. he brought so much to the role and i’m glad josh was the one that got the part.
i think the music was great, especially honeycomb. every single time they sang it i got goosebumps. i do wish they could’ve kept the iconic line “and baby when you think of me, i hope it ruins rock n’ roll” in regret me, but i digress. sam and riley’s voices sounded incredible together. GOD i can’t get over the casting it’s just TOO GOOD.
there were a lot of things they changed towards the end that i wasn’t a big fan of. i did NOT appreciate billy’s relapse whatsoever. it didn’t make sense at all to me and it kinda ruined his arch a bit. i also would’ve loved to hear the famous speech billy made about daisy, and i mean THE WHOLE SPEECH, not just a fragment of it but i’m glad we at least got to hear some of it.
overall, i think this show was incredible. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: the chemistry between sam and riley was electric. when they sang together on stage you could practically cut the tension in the air. i also really like how this story doesn’t judge it’s characters. there aren’t really right or wrongs, just humans being human and i appreciate that. even tho they made certain changes i didn’t care for throughout the show, i still enjoyed the show to the max. they’re my family and i love them and i’ll be rewatching this a lot <3
