Poetically around one year ago I finished reading the graphic novel Watchmen. I was blown away it was like no piece of media I had ever consumed before, it was a masterclass in story telling, writing, and character development.Despite my dumbass purposely spoiling the comic for myself in lockdown I still loved it. So I was a bit skeptical going into this series as my expansions were high. Not to mention the fact that once more spoiled the show for myself so I was aware of the twists. But what I wasn't aware of was the amazing, character, cinematography and score plus soundtrack this series brings to the table. Watchmen is pretty damm incredible it deals with so many themes and is able to still be able to work as its own thing and be a good sequel to the book. Frankly in some places it improves on the book like with the handling of Laurie as a character and we get to see Ozymandias in a situation where he hasn't meticulous planed everything. So finally after all the praise I give Watchmen I have chosen to give it four and a half stars I really want it to be five but there's one thing holding it back. It's the lack of one Dan Dreiberg, Dan is one of my favourite characters from the book and it bugs me how he isn't included in this follow-up. He is the only semi sane character in the orginal and could frankly play the same role in the show as sometimes the show lacks a down to earth character to ground the plot. I've seen lindelofs interview where he explains it all and he raises a good point but I just don't get why a key character from the book isn't in the sequel whatsoever. But to conclude Watchmen is a near masterpiece and an excellent follow-up to the orginal, as aforementioned I'll touch more on the show as its own thing in my Letterboxd review I just wanted to write something more personal here.
