This show was great. Gonna be honest, it kinda snuck up on me because I was loosely following its production and had no idea when it was releasing until that first trailer. But after having seen the whole show, I’d say they did a great job. Clint Barton finally got the character development he deserved. I always was a fan of Hawkeye in the other films and thought he had potential for his own project. This show did that. Kate Bishop was my main concern but Hailee Steinfeld was perfect casting and nailed the role. Her relationship with Clint is great and the one she shared with her mother defines her character imo. I will say while the Track Suit Mafia were a nice comic accurate touch, they certainly were annoying with all the “Bro” nonsense and the making dumb jokes during serious moments. Echo was a cool character but I’m not sure she deserves an entire spin off show. That said she was well written and completed her arc. However, my biggest gripe with the show is how her arc is completed. I will save that for the spoiler section below. There was some great filmmaking techniques in this show. And there was a car interior tracking shot that I absolutely loved. I appreciated that Hawkeye fleshed out his trick arrows arsenal and we saw him crafting them at one point. I also loved him addressing his time as Ronin, and was glad to see him bring some darkness to the character. Ok I need to talk spoilers now so scroll down if you dare.

So Yelena from Black Widow shows up and her interactions with Barton were perfect. Her interactions with Kate Bishop however were kinda annoying and disrupted the tone at times especially during episode 6. Also during episode 6, we see Vincent D’Onofrio return as Wilson Fisk and I couldn’t have been happier. However he seemed really cartoony when he ripped off a car door, took an arrow to the chest and knocked it away and seemed to exhibit inhuman durability when he got hit by a car and thrown through a department store window. This just doesn’t vibe with the grounded realism his character marinated in with the Daredevil series on Netflix. Also it’s implied that Echo kills him at the end………………………….what. Kingpin is literally one of the best comic villains adapted to screen and now we’ll never see him and Daredevil interact again? Charlie Cox has already been confirmed to return to the role in future projects but now Kingpin just isn’t? Also I wish they would’ve addressed Vanessa in this show. I realize they had a lot to cram into that last episode but still. Explain why Echo never showed up in the three seasons of Daredevil and where Vanessa is now. Now a common rule in film and all of entertainment is if you don’t see a body, they aren’t dead. We see Echo pull the gun, aim it at him, the camera pans up and we hear gun shots and see the flash of a muzzle. No corpse. Is it possible she didn’t kill him? I really hope so. If THAT is the end of Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, we are gonna have a SERIOUS problem. That was the one moment that made me reevaluate how I felt about the show. If not for that moment, I could’ve seen this topping WandaVision as my favorite Marvel Disney Plus series. I suppose this maybe wasn’t as bad as Ralph Boner because it was actually Kingpin but still it hurt to watch the actual, definitive, officially canon to the MCU Kingpin get killed in such a pathetic way.
