I really did love the idea when it was first reported because queer poc Velma is an absolutely slay and then the teaser came out and I was even more excited cuz a slasher animated series was teased and I was like yup imma eat it up. I didn’t even know the series premiered yesterday with the only trailer coming out at the same time as the show which is poor marketing. Honestly it’s just not funny bc it’s just meta jokes after meta jokes which is funny to an extent like it’s almost like it’s a parody on YA series like riverdale (which is pretty much them dissing riverdale in every 5 min). It’s trying to hard to be as vulgar as possible but for a good adult animation to work u can’t rely on vulgarity and sex cuz it’s just not funny. Honestly I do love the cast and mindy kaling cuz she’s the creator of two of my favorite ‘20’s shows which is never have I ever and sex lives of college girls but this is just a major flop and I would trade this whole series just for a final season of mystery incorporated which actually made a good darker and more teen appealing ya series than what Velma is doing. I am gonna keep watching because hbo has a habit of making bad tv shows then makes them good after a few episodes such as gossip girl but right now it’s not a good start to the series and hoping it gets better bc it has so much potential but they need to understand that dissing riverdale and making sex jokes is not gonna be funny. The way they should’ve done this is making it irreverent as the scooby doo live action movies and maybe it would’ve been good but rn it’s very much a bad start to the new year of television.
