If you have seen The Promised Neverland, then this may sound extremely familiar. Season 1 of AiB was absolutely a treat and had everything one would want from a show. However, even though season 2 picks up right where it left off, it does so in a very weirdly paced slap in the face to the first season. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t feel I wasted my time, nor that any event was out of place, however the pacing destroyed it for me. Season 1 gave you slow paced tension that moved in a very fast direction only when outside forces forced the main characters to move accordingly. Let’s take The Beach, for example. As soon as アリス got to the beach the whole show changed not only in genre but in pace, and although new character were introduced, the overall flow of The Beach was shown, so the lack of development or the quick perceived notion of the characters was not only easy, but warranted. Season 2 takes about 5 episodes doing 2 games (5 hours), does a montage of the remaining games in 5 minutes, concludes the fate all of main characters in 20 minutes, then tries to explain the whole plot in 1.5 hours. Again, nothing in itself was wrong with the show. Had character development, action, tension, etc but I feel it could have lived up to Season 1 if it was either: 4 episodes shorter, or 10 episodes longer.
