This is a really good episode of TV, I don’t necessarily think this is a really good episode of Black Mirror. I mean, I would find myself really enjoying the episode. All its twist and shocks. And then I would step back and think, “what are they actually saying about ai here?” Because what are they saying? Ai bad? Sorry, but I don’t need a Black Mirror episode to tell me that. But also, some of me thinks they aren’t saying that. That ending, whilst beautiful, kind of defeats the whole point and message of the episode. Ai is bad, unless our characters in this episode use it to keep the main couple connected. It feels a bit, off to me. Also, and I’m so sorry, but some of the casting choices here really hold the story back. I really don’t know why we are still hiring Awkwafina for roles. The less said about her the better. But, Issa Rae was so poorly miscast here. Her acting felt so stilted. I get what they were going for with her character. But it just didn’t work. Sorry. This is a great episode. So compelling, romantic, heartbreaking, shocking. I just don’t think it’s really hitting the right and important points it needs to.
