NO SPOILER REVIEW Succession is one of the most interesting and unique shows I’ve seen. It’s the show that has easily the most dislikeable characters in television, seriously out of the main cast I don’t think there’s a character that I never once despised at one point in time. The main plot of the show (no spoilers ofc!) is that Logan Roy, CEO and Owner of this billion dollar company is getting older with age and has to decide who will take over his business once he either dies or retires. His candidates being his children. Kendall Roy is the protagonist of the show, he is desperate in taking over the business and to him that’s what his life is destined for. He also has a history of drug abuse but has been clean for past few years. Shiv Roy is the youngest and only daughter of Logan, she has gone down the path of politics but is with Tom who works for the company. Roman Roy is the most wild and energetic son often being very childish and immature. Connor Roy is very much forgotten considering he’s much older than the prior and also has a different mother making him a half sibling isn’t really interested in the actual business or being involved. It’s hard to be able to fully paint the picture as the full story later gets revealed as the show goes on. Succession is also a show that is a master of telling a story without showing it, for instance there are zero flashback scenes in the show but from word of mouth it makes the past seem so lived in and like we are a guest in seeing the family affairs. There is also an amazing side plot of this character Gregg who pretty much represents the average middle class person adjusting and learning how to act more ‘bourgeois’. He has an entertaining relationship with Tom (Shivs partner) where he is mentored and taught how to fit in. The actor for gregg does an amazing job at coming off as timid and weak even though in real life he’s like 6’6. I would recommend this show to people who can enjoy slow paced media (seriously there’s like 0 action in the show), into business (I’m not but I learnt a decent amount about it all) and are looking for amazing television. In conclusion Succession is an amazing show that feels like it’s once in a lifetime. Each performance is Emmy-Worthy and every character is so well written. This show is a LIGHT 9/10.
