I think this is the first time we are seeing Tony being weak. Throughout this show there was a lot of masculine egotistic men; men can't cry, men must be tough all the time, men must cheat on their wives, they can't be gay, can't do this or that. They can't talk about their feelings yet Tony did and the men had to accept that. Tony had to show the guys he still the boss, but this is also showing that he is coming to the end of his era, whether he gets caught or something else happens to him. He is immune forever.
