absolutely phenomenal work from owen. i can't get over the fact that he was just a normal kid without any acting experience or training. he commanded this episode so well. i felt scared of him, i empathised with him. this series, while obviously phenomenal in terms of the cinematography, is so so important, especially in the current climate.
across the globe there has been an uprising in right-wing fascism, which has mainly been supported by young men. and the reason is presented so well right here. the damage being done to the minds of young men and boys is tragic, and harmful to every single person around them, but mostly themselves. as a woman it's hard to be anything but angry about such matters when you're met with men saying they despise women every single day, but it also makes me deeply sad for them, and for the future.
no kid or young man should be made to feel like they're ugly, or unworthy of love just because some silly, sad man on the internet has told them that they should be a certain way just for women to like them. and then they're met with women that don't like demeaning men and would much prefer to receive love and care, rather than what all the 'red pill' nonsense spreads on a daily basis. then in their rejection, they turn against the people who made them feel worthless: women.
there is no excuse for what jamie has done, but i do feel for him. that's why this show is so important, because it has to toying with the line of what feels wrong and what feels right. but at the end of the day, we can all feel sad for the fact that his mind was plagued and that his insecurity overruled any sense of morality he had, but we can also acknowledge that what he did is terribly wrong, and he needs to be punished accordingly.
i'm just so glad that this epidemic of hatred for women has a mainstream representative. one that has everyone, especially men, asking questions about what they could maybe do better moving forward to prevent victims just like katie.
