Another incredible execution of an adaptation. I’m fully enjoying this show and completely along for the ride, despite knowing exactly what will happen. Stumbling upon locations from the game and recognizing them is such a wonderful feeling—I’d highly recommend playing before watching. It adds so much to the experience.
I’ve heard a lot of backlash over Bella Ramsay’s casting as Ellie, mostly because she doesn’t look like the character, but I completely don’t care. She’s hilarious, and this episode really showcased her ability to bring Ellie’s sarcastic, expressive personality to life. I’m absolutely loving her in this role.
The runners and clickers this episode were phenomenal. The clickers are absolutely terrifying—I actually feel like I need to be silent while watching, as if making a noise in real life would somehow get me killed. The added detail with the virus on the runners is amazing, and that final scene with the flower-like tendrils going into the person’s mouth? Disgusting. It’s so much more disturbing than anything the game showed, and I love the added horror elements.
It’s so sad knowing what’s coming in this show. A death this early already hit hard, so I can only imagine the heartbreak in store for the bigger deaths later on.
