This may be the most overhated arc ever. I’ve heard the anime version of this arc is abysmal and that was one of the reasons why I decided to read instead of watching, because of pacing issues and other things. But in the manga, the pacing is absolutely fine. And this arc is definitely one of the most important arcs in one piece, maybe like top 2. This arc also may just have the best set of themes out of all arcs, like racism and the cycle of hatred and many more. Also had one of the strongest casts too. New characters like Hody, Otohime, and Fisher Tiger were all excellent, especially Hody. He’s who I would call the most overhated character in one piece and maybe the most overhated ever, but that spot belongs to Tooru from Jojolion, right now. The final panel for the arc, the blood transfusion, was so beautiful. It’s such an amazing moment because in the flashbacks, we see Otohime, right before her death, say “I know you can reach the light of the sun”. And when we look at the panel, Sun is shining on Luffy and Jinbei. Their blood transfusion shows us the bond of the humans and fishmen. Otohime’s dream is fulfilled. They have reached the light of the sun, which to my understanding, is supposed to be like Plato’s cave(I won’t be explaining it since I’ve already yapped a lot) which explains this arc very well. Truly a one of a kind arc.
