Going into Season 3 of the series, I did not think I was going to be put through the emotional ringer, but they got me (several times).
The superhero antics kind of take a backseat to a more hard-hitting story family story that in most forms of comic book media would've overlooked. Lois' cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment were so bold. I'm continually astounded that they wrote this and made it, so far, the best storyline of the entire series.
All of the family drama was greatly improved over last season, like they have firmly established the characters now, so they know what to do with them. That doesn't mean there weren't are few surprises scattered throughout too.
The antagonists in this season are the true standouts. Bruno Mannheim could have easily been another Ally, just forgettable and not interesting. But he was identifiable. His reasoning and motivation are understandable, and was played so well. And then we have our surprise in the last few episodes. This character makes such an impact that I can't wait to see them to their full potential next season.
This is definitely my favourite season so far. I don't know if they can top it honestly. But I remain hopeful, and if Superman represents anything, it's hope.
