when I first heard about a spinoff of hidden love centering the brother’s love story I wasn’t particularly excited specially after finding out it had a new cast. however, earlier this year the hype for this adaption was so constant it was impossible not to get influenced by it. so that’s how I ended up watching it while airing. it has been long since I watched a cdrama like that but the first frost had me anticipating the daily eps at 12am every single day. at first it may seem like a common force proximity, living under the same roof type of romance drama but wei yifan character and glimpses of her past quickly makes you realize this is not your typical romcom. the melancholy aura was truly perfected. it set the tone of the show and prepared the viewers, specially the ones unfamiliar w the story, for what was to come. the sleepwalking episodes were funny and a great way to make the characters grew closer together but when finally the revelations of wei yifan’s past are made the need for her to be happy and open herself up to her loved ones was the driver of the story. sang yan was such a compelling character too. it was difficult to decipher him at first. his effusiveness and nonchalant attitude while ofc charming was confusing. I knew she was her first love but I didn’t understand his perspective until later on it’s revealed how he diligently loved and cherished yifan during all those years appart. even as a fan of asian dramas I get a bit skeptical about such devotion and longing but oh man by the end they really had me believing in a forever love. I was so touched by their relationship, I don’t quiet remember a media couple making me feel like this. as you can tell, this was such an unexpected ride. I love both of the characters so dearly. this is easily one of my favorite dramas of the year. the reason why Im not giving it full stars is bc of the second couple, I had so much trouble connecting w their story and them taking screen time away from the main couple. there was simply no comparison.
