Should've been left as it was. Not only because it's important for lgbtq+ rep in media so it can be destigmatized for general audiences (especially for younger children to understand those topics), but also because the episode feels incomplete without it. There's obivious edits made to cut explicit references to Kai being trans, with the opener in particular making it obvious. But a large chunk of the episode arguably features heavy trans allegories, with Kai finding where she belongs in the softball team and feeling like herself. All those moments are great, you can tell the team put a lot of passion into this episode in particular. But it's all dampened by the fact that we can't see the true vision, because Disney execs were afraid to say anything outside their comfort zone. Not helped by the fact that the ending is super anticlimatic, an issue the whole show's kinda had, but it being particularly bad here, given the payoff doesn't happen until the next episode, which confuses me as to why they didn't show it here. I feel bad for the crew that had their art neutered to this capacity but what the mouse saids goes. Unrelated but Lil Rel Howery gives a great performance as Kai's dad.
