Jenna Ortega carried this show. Her acting and delivery served Wednesday’s coldness and dark humor so well. Wednesday’s character development throughout the season was great. Watching her navigate the uncharted territory of having friends and people she actually cares about was nice too. Also, this is the popular opinion and I agree.. the love triangle felt completely unnecessary and a little out of character for her. She didn’t even have chemistry with either of them. Not every show with a teenage protagonist needs romance. A lot of parts felt a lot like Harry Potter to me. Nevermore is basically Hogwarts and the battle with Crackstone reminded me of Harry v Voldemort. Also I couldn’t take the Hyde seriously bc of how ridiculously it was animated lol. It was more funny than scary. This is definitely a preteen-teen show so I won’t criticize it too harshly. The plot is pretty mediocre. There are also some issues with the mystery aspect of the show. It was predictable and underwhelming especially towards the end but I’m hopeful that they’ll improve the next season.
