I guess with this show, we are confronted with an anti-TV show. Cuarón is not interested in adhering to classic standards of TV-making but rather in imposing a vision of what TV could also be. He is taking this narrative and using the possibilities of narratives within the medium. These seven episodes are exactly seven episodes because the form demands it; therefore, the form of serialized storytelling itself becomes a dramatic instrument.
Not only that, but this absolutely shatters every single "made-for-streaming" show out there by the sheer fact alone that Cuarón’s golden touch makes this a masterclass in staging, directing, cinematography, and sound. Honestly mind-boggling, even though this is Cuarón at his most pulpy and boomer-headed. But it still works. I think you just shouldn’t expect classic TV storytelling or filmmaking.
