I've seen few political thrillers lately that have entertained me as much as this miniseries. The mix that, in my opinion, worked well here is an intelligent script, performed in an outstanding way by its protagonist. The experienced Robert De Niro comes to show that at his advanced age he still has enough ammunition for a few good acting shots. He is the one who takes the reins of the story and knows how to surround himself with good secondary characters who lift him up correctly.
Now, not everything is shiny. There are some negative details that prevent a higher overall rating. Without looking at other fields, the script itself has a couple of conveniences and dead ends that are overlooked without explanation. Yes, I said it was an intelligent script, but it uses this same quality to leave a couple of loose ends under the rug.
Despite this, the series always has an aura of suspense. It keeps you tense and expectant for the development and outcome of the plot. Good editing. The photography is austere but effective, accumulating many static shots that do not take major risks. A final point to highlight is the production design. Good set design, good interior decoration, good locations.
Zero Day is one of the pleasant surprises of 2025 in terms of series.
