First Glimpse:
It's been a while for a historical-political costume cdrama for me bec of the many modern dramas airing lately. So here I am for a change of backdrop and ofc, political intrigues and schemes. But mostly for the revenge plot.
One thing to note, I have been crazy over political-historical costume cdramas since the end of last year bec of the many good scripts out there and this one, unfortunately, is nothing new.
First of all, the isekai. That part, I like. I like a good revenge story and the going back to the past to change the future is very welcome to me. Si Jin does not, however, excite me when Jiang Si returns to the past. I bet it's bec I've seen a ton of the same plot device and this didn't feel anything new anymore.
Same with the family dynamics, of being the bullied family, etc. Plus, Jiang Si does not give a striking strong and smart or talented character that I was expecting. Her character is somehow, weak. All that she has is a memory of the future events that she wanted to change. That's it.
Same with Yu Qi's character. I think he isn't introduced very well. They were trying to make his introduction maybe mysterious but there is a lack of presentation to his character, IMO. I am not curious abt who he is. And the flashbacks of JS's future memories abt him is just weak. I actually don't understand the point of his character other than another pain point for JS's revenge.
What made me stay until this episode, however, is the investigation. I am always interested in detective dramas and I guess, it's the only pull for me here. Plus, I admit, they are really good at cliffhanging.
There are so many sick people in the world. Some people are just not people. They're just sickening. And sometimes, it's hard to watch these parts. But again, solving cases, I'm in for justice being served. And at least the judge here is decent enough to actually serve it.
But I have to admit that as the story progresses, and after revealing some parts of JS's future, and abt YQ's identity, it's actually getting better. This is the reason why I watch a drama until ep 4 before deciding if I will drop it or not. A method that is not always effective, what, with some disappointing dramas which shall not be named, but works for me.
Anw, this is not the best historical-political costume cdrama but it's not so bad. Hopefully, it gets better...
