Nothing’s changed, this series is as incredible as always. Delivering the most captivating, most well done storytelling with so much depth to it. The Sopranos S4 never lost my attention, but it felt like this season’s lower episodes were a little more common than my personal favourite S3. But with that, this season’s highs are some of The single greatest episodes of The Sopranos’s as a whole. And jesus christ are those incredible.
You’ve got intensity and unpredictability that carried the season to its peak With episodes like The Weight which is like the most on edge i’ve ever been. Whoever Did This being truly overwhelming and overdue, a huge force being murdered and a huge missing dynamic for the series going forward. Everybody Hurts being an enormous moment in Tony’s life, a showcase of character at most. The Strong Silent Type having a character extremely close to Tony go off the rails for the whole season and in that episode it comes to an impossible level. And ending the season with Whitecaps, a series best episode, with Tony being on top of the world and tragically but incredibly deserving, his life quickly crumbles before his eyes, leaving him in this unique and unpredictable place going into S5. Pure perfection of storytelling.
Hopefully in S5 there’s more movement from the FBI, potentially seeing some of the crew wearing a Wire, Johnny i’m already suspicious of. I’m more than happy to continue playing the long game with the FBI like they’ve done since S1, but i feel like we’re aiming for something next season. Would also very much like to see more from Paulie, he was in prison for a good time but when he returned, he didn’t get the showcase like i’d hope. But there’s so many things on the table right now and i’m so eager to see what else is in store.
