This season represents a significant improvement over the sixth, largely thanks to the introduction of new characters and the evolution of the relationship between Dexter and Debra, which brings a fresh dynamic to the series. Additionally, the introduction of Isaak Sirko adds complexity to the plot, giving it a touch of tension and depth. While the season doesn't reach the excellence of the earlier seasons, it remains a solid offering that keeps me engaged.
Although the series has lost some of its original depth, Dexter’s character remains strong enough to carry the storyline. The impact of the season finale is especially noteworthy, highlighting Dexter’s evolution as he faces new threats and moral dilemmas, which gives the narrative a fresh and exciting focus.
However, not everything in the season is perfect. One of the weaker aspects is Quinn’s subplot, a character who, instead of evolving, gets stuck in a repetitive arc that contributes little to the main narrative. In previous seasons, Quinn had shown suspicions about Dexter, but in this season, he becomes completely disconnected from the central events. Rather than becoming a key obstacle or ally, he turns into a secondary figure that doesn’t add anything meaningful to the story. His subplot, which could have explored the more corrupt side of the police department or put Dexter in direct danger, ends up being a distraction without any real impact, with his conflict with the mafia failing to reach any significant climax.
In summary, while the seventh season shines in its development of the main characters, Quinn remains trapped in a repetitive narrative that doesn’t justify his screen time. Although his story could have been a reflection of the moral decay within the police department or a way to put Dexter at risk, it ends up being wasted on an unconvincing romantic arc. Overall, the season maintains the strength of Dexter as the central character, facing new threats and moral dilemmas, but the stories of secondary characters like Quinn and Batista have lost relevance and don’t contribute significantly to the main plot.
