“because lately there are these moments when i feel… connected to something else-someone. it’s like… the mask is slipping… and things… people… who never mattered before are suddenly starting to matter. it scares the hell out of me.” a really good like development episode for dexter. two people in this episode, lila and the car shop guy, can see through dexter like a open book. the car shop guy can tell the minute dexter walks in that he’s shopping for dexter’s “wife and kids” but dexter is telling himself that is for his next victim. and lila can just tell all that dexter said in his first talk was bs. when dexter had the car guy on his table they were talking about dexter and his girlfriend and the kids. dexter is telling himself that they aren’t a major staple in his life and how they are just a disguise for who he really is, but the car guy can see right through it and it is when the car guy starts talking smack about rita dexter in a fit of rage kills him, not just for dexter’s sake but mainly because for rita. dexter then goes back to the rehab thing and is when we get one of dexter’s best moments. he talks about his urges and how it makes dexter feel alive. he doesn’t fight in fact he joins it. that is until recently where he has been spending a lot of time with rita and the kids. this is when he starts talking about how he has really been connected to them, how they were once a minor thing in his life now they are a major part, and this scares dexter. he’s scared of change and he’s scared of how connected he is really to rita and the kids. his mask is slipping. then the episode ends with doakes finding out about dexter’s “inconvenient lie”
