EDIT: WAIT THAT FINAL LINE SAYING "HE" WAS A MISTRANSLATION AND THE GENDER IS ACTUALLY NOT SPECIFIED??? this has just saved the ending for me. I loved that "Saint-Juste" was the line this episode opened with, and it almost basically closed with her as well, with the airplane carrying her scent away. Both Fukiko and Kaoru's ways of remembering her struck me. Still... an 18-year-old wedding... i guess you can tell this was written in the 70s, huh. Nanako and Rei, the lesbians that you are, I will never forget.
