Netflix what are you doing my shaylaaaaaaa.
Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly) a political thriller with nothing new to say. Perhaps even one that suffers from being a systemically depoliticised political drama that could’ve benefited from some infusion of real life strife or discourse instead of trying to belabour the same statements about the hyper polarisation of contemporary politics. Yet surprisingly its a show that doesn’t really let you see how polarisation permeates the minutia of society because it doesn’t want to say what affiliations any of its characters have or delve into some of the more murky aspects of politics on either side. A minefield of contradictions.
Still, did keep me seated for six hours though. Its engaging but only in a way that you’re so desperate to get to the end to find out who dunnit that you’re left wanting to skip over all the drama to get to that point.
Seeing DeNiro again was a welcome surprise and the cast is kinda stacked but this could’ve been better.
