7.8/10
This is a perfectly decent Sentai season that I’d wholeheartedly recommend to newcomers. It keeps things simple in its themes and characters, which makes it easy to follow while still being engaging. One of its standout aspects is the unique approach to the team dynamic, starting with just three members and slowly building the roster over time, making their journey feel fresh and compelling. Following this team for 48 weeks was an incredible ride, and I’m genuinely going to miss their adventures.
The season’s first arc, or “lap,” gave us Mad Rex, who stood out as an excellent villain until the main antagonist, Spinder, arrived and stole the show. Unfortunately, the villains for laps two and three didn’t quite measure up, often feeling forgettable. Lap two found its saving grace in Sakito, the violet ranger, whose rivalry with the BoonBoomgers injected some much-needed energy, even if it was short-lived. Lap three, while a mixed bag, balanced moments of brilliance with some notable flaws. However, the final lap truly brought the show to its peak. Darker in tone, it introduced Spinder as a chilling villain while tackling allegories to political corruption and the ignorance of child violence, which tied beautifully into the Red Ranger’s motivations and character arc.
The finale wrapped things up in a way that felt both fitting and meaningful for each of the characters. Boonboomger may not have reinvented the wheel, but it delivered a heartfelt and memorable journey that I’ll look back on fondly.
